Simplicity is Key with this recipe. It’s quick & easy.
What better way is there to usher in Fall than with in-season fruit?
Granted, we enjoy this dessert any time throughout the year. But Autumn seems the right time for this tasty dish due to the seasonality of apples and pears. Apple season is from mid-August to mid-November, and pears are in peak season from September to January.
With this in mind, it seems the perfect time to share with you.
Ingredients — Makes 2 Servings
- 1/2 apple, cored, sliced & cubed
- 1/2 pear, cored, sliced & cubed
- 1/3 c. blueberries
Syrup Ingredients
- 2–3 T. agave, (I recommend Madhava Organic Light Agave.)
- 1–2 T. lime juice, usually equates to 1/4–1/2 lime, freshly squeezed
- 1/2 tsp. chia seeds
Add the fruit to a small or medium-sized bowl and stir. In a separate dish, mix the syrup ingredients. Pour over the fruit and mix well. Enjoy! 😋
Note: I store the apple and pear halves in a container with a little lime juice on each. I make another batch of this delicious treat a couple of days later.
Preferred types of fruits that I use:
Apples — Fuji, Gala, or Honeycrisp
Pears — D ’Anjou or Bartlett
Health Benefits of Apples and Pears
The benefits of each fruit are quite similar. They both have potassium, phosphorous, and sodium.
Pears though have more iron, calcium, zinc, magnesium, and copper.
Apples and pears have equal amounts of B2 and C. Apples rule with higher amounts of vitamins A, E, and B1.
Both fruits are high in fiber, low in calories, improve digestion, assist with regularity, help prevent constipation, and are rich in antioxidants.
What I learned — It’s not only “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” We should add pears to this saying too. 🍎🍐
